How to Write Better Lyrics

1. Choose a Topic:
This can be anything in the world. Some of the most common include love, relationships, and hatred/revenge. Just choose something.
EX: when my dog died
2. Brainstorm:
Take your topic and make a list of things that would fall under it. Use words that describe how your topic makes you feel, what it looks like, what it does, how you handled it, I could go on all day.
EX: I was sad, I cried
3. Start to Write:
Use your brainstorm ideas and make them into lines, like the lines in a poem. But, remember, you want the lyrics to mean something. Make them meaningful. Instead of saying, “I was hurt,” you could say, “I was crushed.” Instead of saying, “I was crushed,” you could say, “I was drowning in self-misery.”EX: There was once a pup I knew he wouldn’t live forever But when it was time I couldn’t help but discover I’m not as strong as I thought I was It turns out that I have misery inside
4. Title It:
This step can fall anywhere. All you have to do is sum up everything you were trying to say throughout your song. Your title may change a few times, that’s no big deal though.
EX: I Miss My Pup
5. YOU’RE DONE!
Now your song is DONE! If you still don’t get a few things, or if your song still isn’t good, THAT’S OK! Lyric writing TAKES PRACTICE! Not everyone can write a masterpiece their first try.
